AVIATE Center’s Autonomy Fest Featured in Aerospace America Annual Review

We are pleased to share that Autonomy Fest 2025, held on May 29-30 as part of a NASA University Leadership Initiative on robust and resilient autonomy, was featured in the annual Intelligent Systems review published by Aerospace America, the flagship magazine of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). It was also highlighted in a companion year-in-review article on advancing exploration and autonomy from the Moon to the battlefield. The articles highlight efforts supported by the Intelligent Systems Technical Committee and the Guidance, Navigation, and Control Technical Committee. Autonomy Fest 2025 served as a capstone field demonstration led by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign AVIATE Center, showcasing learning-enabled autonomy with formal safety guarantees, including autonomous emergency landing and real-time replanning.

We thank Irene Gregory for her support in communicating this work, and Christos Papachristos and Evangelos Theodorou for their leadership in the autonomy demonstrations featured in the review.

This recognition highlights the growing impact of the AVIATE Center’s research on safe, resilient, and certifiable autonomous systems.
